Join the RCSS

Thank you for your interest in becoming a part of the RCSS - we are excited to support your wonderful ideas!

How to learn more about us:

  1. Read the “About the Research Cluster” section on the homepage to get a better sense of what the RCSS is and does.
  2. Read about the current interns, current projects, and previous projects to get a sense of some ideas RCSS has allowed students to explore. The range of possibilities is unlimited! You can also reach out to individual scholars and schedule conversations!
  3. Read through RCSS Journals from previous years - curated personal reflections from scholars on their projects and experiences in RCSS, all in a beautifully designed layout.
  4. Check out the Advisory Board and all of the great work they have done over their careers.  Read through their bios to get a sense of who would be most helpful for you and your project.
  5. To get started in the process of becoming an intern-scholar and/or just learn more about what we do, email our admin-scholars and express interest! We will invite you to our informal meetings with scholars, advisory board members, and sometimes alumni!

Do you want to join a current project, propose a completely new project, or become an RCSS administrative scholar? Follow the steps below!

How to join a current project:

  1. Reach out to the current intern in charge of the project and work with them to define your role and craft your proposal.

  2. Share your proposal with the Admin-scholars, the Director, and any relevant Advisory Board members via email (see RCSS members here). Feel free to schedule a meeting to talk about your proposal as well.

  3. You will receive feedback and once your final proposal is approved, you will officially be an intern scholar!

How to propose a new project:

  1. Write up your idea into a proposal (see example at the bottom of this page).

  2. Share your proposal with the Admins, Advisory Board members of interest, and the Director so they can provide constructive feedback. Feel free to schedule a meeting to talk about your proposal as well.

  3. You will receive feedback and once your final proposal is approved, you will officially be an intern scholar!

How to become an administrative intern scholar:

  1. Reach out to the current Admins to see what positions are available (logistics, finances, website/outreach, social media/journal).

  2. Work with the Admin-scholars to learn how to manage the role.

  3. Officially become an intern scholar!

Proposal requirements:

  1. Title

  2. Idea

  3. Participants (team members, community partners, target audience, etc.)

  4. Deliverables (with a projected timeline)

  5. Explanation of how your project will involve science, subjectivity and service

Here is an example proposal: Tricentennial Project. We don't expect that your proposal will look like this on its first draft, but here is an idea of what information to think about, and how you can format it.
