This kickoff event was a Zoom career panel and networking event with members of the Black Alumni Council (BAC) and career mentors. This first event will be followed up with other events throughout the year as well as a mentorship program wherein Black undergraduate students will be paired with mentors from the BAC and from grad and post-grad programs in biology-related fields.

Director of Medical Services of Columbia Health
Dr. Brenda Aiken Thompson is Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, board Certified in Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American Board of Internal Medicine She is the Director of Medical Services at Columbia Health the Student Health Service for the Morningside campus of Columbia University. Dr. Aiken attended Barnard College of Columbia University and received her M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physician and Surgeons (P&S).
Uchenna Unachukwu, MS, MA, PhD
Post-Doctoral Fellow in Columbia University’s Department of Anesthesiology
Dr. Unachukwu currently holds positions at CUMC and CUNY where he is a research scientist in Dr. D’Armiento’s lab and an assistant adjunct professor in Biology at CUMC. His recent published research has focused on cell proliferation which has implications in mesenchymal tumor growth in the lungs and previous research has ranged to effects of climate and pest pressures on tea growth and quality in tropical China. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the City University of New York as well as degrees in Microbiology, Phytochemistry, and Education.
Ewoma Ogbaudu, B.A.
Medical Student, Class of ‘24
Ewoma is an alumnus of Columbia College and a current medical student at the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine. Ewoma worked with Neci Whye to develop an entirely new, award-winning course titled “Marginalization in Medicine” while at Columbia and is excited to continue addressing health disparities while mentoring minority students interested in medicine throughout his career as a physician. He is a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria with interests in orthopedic surgery, photography, and comic book writing.

Anne-Marie is a Columbia College senior majoring in Neuroscience and Behavior. She is currently serving as the Charles Drew President and is also involved with Peer Health Exchange, Christian Union, and Orchesis.

Charles Drew Secretary and Biology Lab TA, Class of ‘21
Sadde is a Columbia College senior majoring in Biology and Ethnicity and Race studies with a focus on global health. They are working as a Biology Lab TA. They are currently serving as the Charles Drew Secretary and are also the co-Program Coordinator for CU STRIVE as well as being involved in ADP and Under1Roof.
