Marginalization in Medicine: Pre-Health Conference

The Marginalization in Medicine Conference is an all-day conference that aimed to address social determinants of health, facilitate engaging discussions as related to inequalities in the current health care system, and provide students with opportunities to establish relationships with medical school admissions representatives.

On Saturday, the RCSS hosted the Marginalization in Medicine Conference. The Marginalization in Medicine Conference is an all-day conference that aimed to address social determinants of health, facilitate engaging discussions as related to inequalities in the current health care system, and provide students with opportunities to establish relationships with medical school admissions representatives. Additionally, this conference aimed to improve the opportunities for pre-med students of color in fields where they are underrepresented.

Our Keynote Speaker was Dr. Georges Benjamin, Executive Director of the American Public Health Association. Previously, Dr. Benjamin worked as the secretary of health in the Maryland Department of Health and Hygiene and chaired the Department of Community Health and Ambulatory Care at the District of Columbia General Hospital. 

We'll also had Dr. Rishi Goyal, Dr. Olajide WIlliams, Dr. Winfred Tovar, and many others as guest speakers.

Additionally, there was a Dean's admissions panel with medical school deans from a wide range of schools. There was a community-based organization panel featuring Harlem United, The CornerProject, the Gay Men's Health Crisis, and the NYC DOHMH East Harlem Neighborhood Health Action Center.

Lastly, we had an overdose intervention training session by The CornerProject with free naloxone kit giveaways.
