Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America; Guggenheim and ACLS Fellow; NEH Senior Fellow and Fellow at the Rockefeller Foundation Study Center at Bellagio, Lake Como, Italy. Biennial Chaucer Lecturer, New Chaucer Society, Sorbonne (Paris), 1998.

Member, Board of Directors, Columbia University Community Impact. (Since 2000 I have been centrally involved in the Community Impact College Road program, as founder of College Prep, founder and co-ordinator, with Dean Roosevelt Montas, of the Core and Community Program, and founder of the Mentoring program for college-bound adults.)
